Assalam Alaikum sister. Ramadhan Mubarak. I was wondering as to how do u manage to write such beautiful articles?? I'm a student preparing for GRE. Can u suggest me something to improve my english and vocabulary.
Thank you sister, another very good article. Your description of Ramadan in Cairo actually brought a lump to my throat. I love the picture of the kids - what handsome children you have, Mashallah!
As for the writing tip, yes - read read read! It's like learning anything, the more you study it the better you'll get. Classic authors such as Dickens or the Brontes are good because they'll rarely contain anything at all haram, and the english is very proper.
Can you all please recommend some books to read to improve the skills, I am not that much familair with the authors or books as I am from India and now after coming to MELB I see my daughter reading lots of books and I am very much concerned that it may contain some haram or harmful ideas.
I would really apprecite if some one can recommend me some good authors.
Assalamualikum Fatima, I have a question like, is it allowed for a muslim to attend the iftar given by a nonmuslim organization/person? I have heard some say its disliked some say its ok , What do you think?
Umm Nafisa...as I don't have daughters...I can't think of any appropriate books off the top of my head...I guess I was reading books like 'The Secret Garden' and 'The Hobbit' and stuff at that age...
but you know Na'ima B Robert has written a book for girls called 'From Somalia with Love' (you can look it up on Amazon) I wrote a review for it on this blog so if you type 'Somalia' in the 'search this blog' it should come up. And a new novel is going to be released soon insha Allah for girls, by Na'ima B Robert...so watch out for it...
As for your question about the iftar from non-Muslims...sounds OK if the food is Halal...but will ask for you anyway.

Ramadan Mubarak, sis! Nice article, masha'Allah. I especially like your personal take on who is exempt from fasting. :)

The more you practise the better you get at anything.
For improving English? Listen to BBC Radio 4 and the World Service? Write about everything and anything. Read Dickens? Read as much as you can.
